How it Works.

Routes offeres a selection of different 4 week courses. Session run on Monday a.m, Mondayp.m. and Friday a.m. Young people sign up to a attend a minimum of a planning session, one 4 week course and a review session. This can be built up to three sessions a week.

Young people are referred by their key worker. They are both invited to attend an initial planning meeting at MTS with the Principal Teacher at Routes and a person centred plan is drawn up. Young people select an activity(ies) from the current menu of courses according to need and interest. Each course consists of a series of 4 weekly half day sessions on either a Monday morning, Monday afternoon and Friday morning. All activities involve core skills work but each have an emphasis on either literacy, numeracy, wellbeing or skills for learning, life and work. Courses are designed to be short, sharp and achievable and thus provide a positive experience of learning which will build confidence and capacity for progression. Young people can choose to attend between one and three courses depending on availability. In this way they can build up their involvement over time until they are sustaining enough hours to move to the next stage/further education/full-time school timetable etc.

Accreditation

Qualification and accreditation are an optional aspect of participating in the Routes programmes. Each 4 week block will cover the content needed to gain a level 3 SQA unit or equivalent. Young people may choose to attend extra sessions to complete the assessment of these units if and when they feel ready. This will be similar for Youth Achievement Awards and Dynamic Youth Awards
